PPI Claimline is delighted to announce that the British Banking
Association (BBA) has abandoned its legal fight over the way PPI
(payment protection insurance) complaints are handled by their
members.
This is fantastic news for people with claims in process for
mis-sold PPI and for people looking to make a claim. The initial
estimates are that the amount that will be reclaimed by consumers
may be as high as £9billion.
What happened?
The BBA was challenging the Financial Services Authority rules on
how lenders should handle PPI complaints. This led to many PPI
complaints being put on hold. In a High Court ruling in April the
BBA's case was rejected and they were given until now to lodge an
appeal. The BBA announced that they will not be appealing the
decision and so claims should now be processed.
What does this mean for consumers?
We are waiting for official confirmation from individual lenders
but we are anticipating that all complaints that have been put on
hold will now be processed by lenders. If you have not yet put in a
claim now really is the time to do so.
The news is a very significant consumer victory. Millions of
people have been mis-sold PPI and the estimates are that the banks
will need to set aside in the region of £9billion to cover
compensation payments to consumers.
