Simon from London had the following experience when he tried to
claim himself:
"I was made aware of PPI claims about 2 years ago by a friend of
mine who worked as a journalist in the financial sector.
It prompted me to look at my egg credit card contract, and I
discovered I had paid around £2,000 in payment protection over the
course of 5 years. I wasn't aware of this at all.
I did some online research and found that egg had been accused of
mis selling payment protection on their credit cards, and then
found a place on the egg.com site which allowed me to claim. I sent
off an enquiry and was sent back a long form to fill in. The form
was quite complicated but I basically had to say whether I thought
I had a claim against egg for mis sold payment protection
insurance, and I chose yes.
I sent off the form and heard back from egg fairly quickly within
2-3 weeks saying that my claim had been unsuccessful.
They stated they had sold me payment protection fairly and that I'd
asked for it. Although I didn't agree with this, I took this as the
end of the process and never followed it up.
It would have been so helpful to have had experts who know what is
classed as mis selling and how much I would be owed to advise me on
this case as I really didn't have a clue. I will definitely be
claiming again but will use a specialist claims company this time
to ensure I am treated fairly by the banks - they betrayed my trust
before by mis selling in the first place, so why should I trust
them again to give me what I am owed now?"
