PPI Claimline Success Stories

I took out six different credit cards a few years ago when I was unemployed. I was cold called by a company explaining I could have been mis-sold PPI, and could make a PPI claim, but they wanted £100 up front. So I called PPI Claimline instead. I couldn't fault the advisor - everything was explained to me clearly and the paperwork was simple. 

My partner and I took out about 12 loans to buy things like a car, a new kitchen and PVC windows and we never even realised we'd been sold payment protection insurance. The PPI was unnecessary as I was self-employed and he had a pretty safe job in security. We contacted a company and decided to let them fight our case but over a year later, nothing had happened. That's when I found PPI Claimline, who were absolutely brilliant. 

I work as a midwife in what is obviously a very secure job, but when I took out several loans and cards a few years ago I was advised to take out payment protection insurance. I had no idea we were eligible for a claim. My husband and I took out a mortgage and a couple of loans with the Halifax and, although they were expensive, we just got used to the amounts we were paying back. I didn't realise we'd been mis-sold payment protection insurance until I spoke to PPI Claimline. When I took out my loan with my bank, I specifically asked for PPI to cover me if I was ill or made unemployed. They didn't tell me it was possible to get insurance elsewhere, or that I could get it cheaper - I simply wasn't given the full information.

I'd taken out a loan for £8,000 for some home improvements and the PPI was added on without me realising I didn't need it. I was in the Forces and had guaranteed payment if I left on medical grounds, and a good redundancy package, too. Nationwide didn't point any of this out to me and so I was completely mis-sold the insurance.

The information was very clear and there were post-it notes marking out anything that needed to be signed. It was all very simple and straight-forward. I didn't want to make the claim myself because I know how bureaucratic these banks can be. You need someone who knows what they're talking about or you're on a losing streak. If you don't have that inside knowledge yourself they [the banks] can easily fob you off. I work as a medical secretary for the NHS in a secure job with good unemployment and sickness cover, but I was told [by Lloyds TSB] that it was a good idea to take out payment protection insurance to safeguard me from things like strokes, heart attacks and cancer. I was given the impression that it was necessary to have PPI as part of the loans.

When I was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2006 I was horrified to learn that the PPI I'd taken out with my loans did not cover me for cancer at all! I'd taken out the insurance in good faith and I felt very disappointed and let down by the bank.

"I was a student, studying to become a nurse, when I took out my loan for £7,000. It was sold to me over the phone and then someone came to my house to finalise the agreement. The person who came to the house didn't explain properly about the payment protection insurance which was added to the loan. The fact that I was a student meant that it was invalid at the time, and when I started work as a nurse I was in a secure profession without the need for PPI.

"I took out a loan with Lloyds for £25,000 and, four years later, I took out a second one which came to £18,000. On each occasion I was lead to believe if I didn't take out the insurance then the loan may not be approved. I was paying off the loan and the insurance and I was charged interest on both. In the end I was paying over £5,000 on each loan, just for the payment protection insurance, but when I lost my job in 2006 I contacted the bank about covering my loan payments and they said I wasn't covered for unemployment. Luckily, I got a new job 3 months later and I went on struggling to make the repayments, but I was really angry with the bank.

"I'm a self-employed joiner and had no reason to have Payment Protection Insurance, but when I was coming back from holiday a few years ago, there was [an MBNA] stand at the airport and they were persuading people to take out credit cards with them. I needed some money and applied for the card, but I had absolutely no idea that they needed my consent to add PPI to the agreement - I thought it was automatic, a condition of taking out the card.

Time went on and things got more and more expensive, and my balance got higher and higher to cope with it. I had £12,000 on the credit card and about £3,000 of it was for the PPI. "I'd taken out a couple of loans with my ex-partner, one to consolidate a few debts and a second to buy a car. They were for about £7,000 each and payment protection insurance was added to both of them. I'd taken both loans out with the same bank [Black Horse] and they never explained the true cost of the insurance, or that it would be added to the initial loans and I was effectively paying interest twice over.

One day I looked at my bank statement and realised I was paying over £170 per month, but only £50 was going back to pay off the loan.
